ITMO Graduates Get Top Salaries
The ranking was compiled by the Superjob research center and is based on a comparison of the average wage rates of specialists graduated between 2011 and 2016. The first two positions of the ranking remained unchanged. Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology got 1st place - its graduates who work in IT get about 136,000 a month; National Research Nuclear University MEPhI and Bauman Moscow State Technical University share the second place with their graduates wages at about 110,000 a month. ITMO University got 3rd place, having surpassed Moscow State University and Perm National Research Polytechnic University - its graduates’ average wages in IT are about 98,000 rubles, which is 11,000 rubles more than last year.
We'd like to note that the ranking's creators took the difference between salaries in the capital and regions into account: all the "regional" salaries were equated with Moscow's level by using a special coefficient. Overall, the ranking shows that students who choose IT are at advantage even if they don't study in St. Petersburg or Moscow. The average wages of a graduate who studied in Penza, Ryazan or Irkutsk (universities from these cities at the end of ranking's top-20) are more than good and amount to about 71,000 rubles.
The market data shows that the demand for IT specialists will only grow. According to another research by SuperJob, in 2017 specialists such as mobile app developers, web-programmers, cyber security professionals and Big Data analysts will be in most demand. What's more, companies mostly look for specialists with interdisciplinary knowledge. The companies will also look for those who can develop different kinds of software for increasing the administrative process efficiency.
Yet, warn the ranking's authors, having a diploma of a leading university doesn't guarantee high wages - one should think of his or her future career from the first years at a university. According to statistics, students who started to work and participate in internships from their 3rd and 4th years can have wages 10-15% higher than those who didn't take these steps to improve their careers.
For those who require help with their first steps to a successful career, ITMO University has the Careers Service that informs students and graduates about "hot" job offers and offers the necessary consultations.
